Joseph Scott Morgan did. Have you ever lit a Marlboro from the ignited gas of a bloated dead man’s belly? Joseph Scott Morgan has. Have you ever wept over a dead dog while not giving a shit about the dead owner laying next him? Morgan did. Were you named after a murder victim? Joseph Scott Morgan was.

This isn’t Hollywood fantasy—it’s the true story of a boy born into the deprivations of a white trash trailer park who as an adult gets further involved in the desperate backdoor sagas of the “new South.” No hot blondes here, just maggots, grief, and the truth about forensics and death investigation.

For Apple users this should be exciting news as Steve Jobs banned the Voluptuous Panic eBook for the iPad despite the titles presence in the New York Metropolitan Museum.

For Kindle users this is great news because Feral House will be offering all eBook versions of the book for $15 as opposed to Amazon’s $20.

We will begin offering many of our titles in eBook form direct from our website in the future including other banned titles like Suicide Girls.

Get the eBook HERE!

“Voluptuous Panic is simultaneously appalling and thrilling, repellent and seductive, grotesque and gorgeous—not a coffee table book. It would go better with absinthe drunk from a human skull.”

“John Zerzan’s importance does not only consist in his brilliant intelligence, his absolute clearness of analysis and his unequalled dialectical synthesis that clarifies even the most complicated questions, but also in the humanity that fills his thoughts of resistance. Future Primitive Revisited is one more precious gift for us all.”
—Enrico Manicardi,
Author of Liberi dalla Civiltá (Free from Civilization)

As our society is stricken with repeated technological disasters, and the apocalyptic problems that go with them, the “neo-primitivist” essays of John Zerzan seem more relevant than ever.

“Future Primitive,” the core innovative essay of Future Primitive Revisited, has been out of print for years. This new edition is updated with never-before-printed essays that speak to a youthful political movement and influential writers such as Derrick Jensen and Paul Theroux.

“Of course we should go primitive. This doesn’t mean abandoning material needs, tools, or skills, but ending our obsession with such concerns. Declaring for community, our true origin: personal autonomy, trust, mutual support in pursuit of all the joys and troubles of life. Society was a trap—massive, demanding, impersonal and debilitating from day one. So hurry back to the community, friends, and welcome all the consequences of such an orientation. The reasons for fear and despair will only multiply if we remain in this brutal and dangerous state of civilization.”—Blok 45 publishing, Belgrade

A friend called me the other day to tell me that a guy named Mark Dery insulted me in a book titled I Must Not Think Bad Thoughts.

Yes, Mark Dery, the guy whose review of Apocalypse Culture for the LA Weekly in the early ’90s was more of a personal insult rather than a critique. And then in 2000 he followed this up with a negative portrayal of Apocalypse Culture II, in which he portrayed me as endorsing “wet-brained conspiracy theories about Waco, and his creepy with coziness with one too many neo-Nazis and Odin-worshipping Aryan supremacists.” Never mind the fact that we never wrote conspiracy theories about Waco, though we have mentioned that we respected the Academy-nominated documentary, Rules of Engagement, which had actual footage revealing government forces murdering children and unarmed adults.

Most of all, why would this social critic try to discourage the fair-minded folks in the publishing business from selling Feral House books created by such a bastard who hates Down Syndrome children and goosesteps with fascist friends? Why does he choose to ignore our publishing history and the publishing of many titles with an investigative, leftist and anarchist slant, including three volumes that the anarchist publisher, AK Press, reprinted in whole?

Could the slime-throwing have something to do with some sort of competitive feeling? Dery’s book The Pyrotechnic Insanitarium was often mentioned in reviews as being oddly reminiscent of my Apocalypse Culture books, and Dery also expressed with hostility in his L.A. Weekly review that his favorite novelist, J.G. Ballard, gave Apocalypse Culture undeserved plaudits?

What about Dery’s claims that “[Parfrey] insists on a more exalted status than the Charles Kuralt of our psychic badlands: that of a Luciferian Noam Chomsky, speaking the awful truths about The Conspiracy and the Dictatorship of Political Correctness that the lapdog mainstream media dare not utter.” Exalted status? Luciferian Noam Chomsky? When and where did I ever make these claims? This, like a lot of Dery’s testimony, comes without supporting evidence, and is only true because Dery says it is.

The slime is thrown once again in a chapter of the recently published, I Must Not Think Bad Thoughts. Says Dery’s friend, 21C blog reviewer Darren Tofts, about Bad Thoughts: “By now he has prepared us for a descent into the rancorous pit of repugnant fucked-up nastiness, an annotated reading of Adam Parfrey’s Apocalypse Culture… His loathing of Parfrey and his self-styled role as ‘pitchman on the pathological midway’ is worn with pride on the cuffs of the leather jacket he is wont to wear in press photographs.” Predictably enough 21C’s editorial reveals that the mag was unable to make it into print when overseen by Mark Dery, and that “the inaugural on-line issue takes as its theme Apocalypse Noir – the trend toward the apocalyptic, or at the least extremely dark – in contemporary writing.” The 21C issue is dedicated to J.G. Ballard.

Critiques are one thing, but slander is another, and I contacted Mr. Dery a decade ago during a trip to Manhattan, and he enthusiastically agreed to discuss his critique face-to-face—in a friendly way, of course. We agreed to meet at Max Fish’s, a bar on Ludlow Street in the Lower East Side of Manhattan. I sat there for an hour nursing a greyhound, but the critic who “loathes” me never appeared.

Though Dery jokes (and in case you missed it, he repeats the joke twice) that ”Adam Parfrey is the Ron Popeil of fusion paranoia, pop Satanism, bad art, cannibal killers, Jews for Hitler” etc etc. Dery also allows that “he’s got a Meckenesque way with the lacerating one-liner and a nose for great stories.” Could Dery’s loathing also be a form of love?

Here’s the point of view from a small publisher:

The “collusion” accusation mystifies us. We’ve always been at the short end of the deal, and told what to do by the big gorillas in the room, Amazon as well as Apple.

Nevertheless, Amazon is the clear winner of this saga. Somehow its own monopolistic behavior missed the Justice Department crosshairs. Amazon dictates to publishers, and we had better conform to its new fees and procedural dictates, or else.

Though its fees and demands are extortionate, at least Amazon has not dictated the kind of books it would allow to be displayed on Kindle. Or at least not so much as Apple, who has banned the display of a number of Feral House eBooks.

As far as the readability of the Kindle or iPad devices, I’ll have to step out of that conversation. Reading books on a plastic device repels me. That said, I do see a certain benefit to them: a lot more words per pound and possibly less physical waste in the end.

But even the newest version of both the iPad and Kindle does not reproduce image-heavy books half as well as their large offset-printed versions. It’s quite a different experience.

With regrets we announce the new release of eBook versions of

You Can’t Win by Jack Black with an introduction by William S. Burroughs (eBook version of the 1988 Amok Press edition)

Among Feral House’s and Process Media’s wide-ranging array of titles are some conspiratorial books looking into the Oklahoma City Bombing and many other questionable aspects of the establishment line. For The Oklahoma City Bombing and the Politics of Terror, we were sued for libel by Oliver “Buck” Revell, the FBI’s Deputy Chief. We were prepared to raise money to fight this case to protect the integrity of Feral House. We met with the former head of the ACLU in his penthouse ocean view office in Santa Monica. He said he’d help us out by only charging a one hundred thousand dollar retainer fee which, of course, we couldn’t afford. PEN refused to take on the case.

Then the book’s author, David Hoffman, admitted that he no longer possessed a recording of Flight 103′s victims’ attorney asserting that Mr. Revell had told him that he plucked his son from the Pan Am flight just before its ill-fated bombing above Lockerbie, Scotland. This was our evidence. The attorney in question “didn’t want to get involved in this legal case” and author David “recorded over” the tape. Well, that took the piss and fight right out of us. To settle, we were forced to put this book out of print, and FBI men actually appeared at my distributor’s warehouse to watch them incinerate all remaining copies of the book. Mr. Revell claimed that his son changed his flight from Pan Am 103 at least a day or two, and not hours, before its tragic conclusion.

David Hoffman made my life difficult for a while, but his life became even worse. And now he’s dead.

A couple years ago we were sued about a chapter in Alex Constantine’s book, Psychic Dictatorship in the USA. The suit was a strange one: filed in a Utah small claims court by a man unfortunately named Robert Wadman, an ex police chief of Lincoln, Nebraska, where he was accused of various misdeeds that figured highly in the book, The Franklin Cover-Up by John DeCamp. DeCamp’s book was about the use of children from Boys Town as party favors for Republican Party VIPs. What a sordid tale. Author DeCamp, by the way, was a Republican State Senator in Nebraska. Wadman’s evidence against Constantine and Feral House was thin and misleading, and as a result we won that case even among Mormon brothers in the middle of the Mormon state.

We’ve been stalked and intimidated by other folk and organizations at other points throughout the decades. Strange and mystifying things have happened to us due to the subject matter of a coming title.

As a result, we certainly understand why people remain suspicious of commonly-held beliefs broadcast by government officials and the media at large. But it seems that many of the new conspiracy-lovers are handed information to believe by powermongers with ulterior motives.

For example, many doubters are troubled by media reports about George Zimmerman’s killing of Trayvon Martin. To this moment, Zimmerman has killed a black teenager with impunity. The doubters believe that media interest in this case is all to do with falsely accusing a white man. Or in Zimmerman’s case, non-black. It’s extremely important for these particular doubters that Trayvon Martin is seen to be a thug and Zimmerman a victim of “lamestream” media. I was told the other day by such an individual that Trayvon Martin didn’t even possess tea or Skittles from a local 7-11. This was yet another “liberal media invention.” Well, unfortunately for this doubter, the disappearance of the Skittles was an invention of a right-wing blogger.

This same morning I was told by another blog poster that media revelations about a fast-melting Antarctic shelf is yet another liberal media invention made to personally enrich Al Gore by overtaxing Americans. Does it matter that satellite images back up this story? Not at all, the USGS is all part of the conspiracy.

It seems to me that this country is going through mass hysteria… let’s not even get to the presidential election. Do you remember the reaction to Orson Welles’ The War of the Worlds?

Jamie Gillis appeared in over one hundred films, and as such was a primary performer in pornography’s “Golden Age.” Gillis is also known for inventing the “Gonzo” genre of pornography, played out in the film Boogie Nights by Burt Reynolds’ character.

Pure Filth appears as transcripts from the films Jamie produced during these early years of radical and highly personal pornography. Completed just before his death in February 2010, Gillis contributed an introduction to each transcript to shed light on his ideas and plans, as well as anecdotal details and personal commentary. The book has more to do with an artist’s understanding of sex than the mere views of a flesh peddler. The careful language and brutal intelligence that Jamie brought to interviews are what separates the conversations from any other work that might have more academic or prurient pretensions.

Extreme novelist Peter Sotos, perhaps better known and appreciated in France and the United Kingdom than his home country, was a good friend of Jamie Gillis, and Sotos’ unusual perspective makes this volume possible.
