“In late August, 1990, both Time and Newsweek carried the story of the slaughter of four women and a man on the Gainesville campus, in Florida. In fact, it is infrequent for either magazine to carry stories about American murders in their European edition, and the fact that they did was a sign of how far the five murders had shocked America.” — from Colin Wilson’s introduction to The Making of a Serial Killer.
Serial killer Danny Rolling admits committing horrendous crimes, and blames them on demonic entities possessing his body. Rolling wrote about these demons in a way that convinced Colin Wilson, an expert on occultism and crime, that Rolling was dealing with something greater than a mere nightmare:
“I was resting on my iron bunk when this thing that appeared like a gargoyle pounced on my chest, pinning me to the mattress. It had both claws pressing against my shoulders.”
The Making of a Serial Killer’s co-author, Sondra London, admits to an “intensely personal” experience in putting this book together, inspiring and provoking Rolling into spilling his deepest and strangest secrets.
The incarcerated Danny Rolling receives confessional—not financial—compensation from the release of this book.
In early September, 1997, the governor of Wyoming, James Geringer, convinced AOL chief executive Steve Case to ban Sondra London’s website for Danny Rolling and other serial killers. American Online complied with the Wyoming governor’s disturbing demand against free speech.
Sondra London’s website has been banned from AOL due to a complaint from the Governor of Wyoming regarding her serial killer web page. And the State of Florida won its initial lawsuit against Sondra London to remove her ability to earn royalties from The Making of a Serial Killer.
