Orgasmatron: The Heavy Metal Art of Joe Petagno
Joe Petagno’s paintings have graced album covers for rock’ n’ roll bands since the 1970s and are beloved by fans. Beginning his career at Hipgnosis, Petagno came into his own creating the iconography and cover art for the influential rock band Motorhead. This is a collection of his best work.
With a foreword by Lemmy Kilmister and an introduction by Steffan Chirazi, the book contains nearly 100 pages of glossy artwork. The Motörhead albums form the centerpiece, alongside other record covers such as Krisiun and Sigh. Featured works include “Foundry of the Graven Image” and “Motörhead: Hammered… the Dull Green Light of the Asura World.” It covers his work with Hipgnosis, designing for Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd, and Motörhead, and contains reproductions of paintings on display in Denmark.
“In 2005, legendary North American illustrator Joe Petagno published via Feral House the book “Orgasmatron: The Heavy Metal Art of Joe Petagno“. The impressively illustrated volume compiled some of the most outstanding, eye-popping works the designer had produced for bands such as Vital Remains, Angelcorpse, and of course, Motorhead.” –Pure Grain Audio
