Apocalypse Culture II
Los Angeles, CA – Feral House – Underground publisher Adam Parfrey presents a second coming of America’s darkest shadow side in Apocalypse Culture II, the completely new sequel edition to what was called by J.G. Ballard “the terminal documents of the twentieth century.” The original Apocalypse Culture, an underground bestseller since its emergence in 1987, going through 13 printings, has remained a huge influence on popular culture. The sequel delineates further regions of the Forbidden Zone, the psychic maelstrom that everyone knows exists but fearfully avoids.
Subject matter includes:
- The biological resurrection of Jesus Christ via modern cloning technology
- Interviews with a convicted murderer and cannibal turned celebrity
- Recipes for cooking babies
- Homunculi
- Pedophilia
- A re-enactment of the 914 deaths that occurred at Jonestown in 1978
- A report on Bobby Beausoleil, his art, and his prison sex life
- The farthest-out conspiracy of all with reasons to take it absolutely seriously
- Letters sent to Anton LaVey’s Church of Satan
- A sample necrocard for those who wish to donate their body to necrophilia
- Steps to overcome masturbation
- The replacement of human mates with expensive masturbatory devices
- Fecal black magic
- Mind control via advertising
And dozens of other compelling examples of our own Apocalypse Culture. Observing that society has been infantilized by being told at every opportunity how to think and what to believe, editor Parfrey refuses to provide easy moral lessons in Apocalypse Culture II, though he supplies pertinent information before and after many articles to assist the interpretation of thoughtful readers. Some will find the contents quite shocking, but that, according to Parfrey, is not his primary purpose. This is an examination of sociological truths that speak of the culture that both created and ignore them.
Contributors include Colin Wilson, Ted Kaczynski, Pentti Linkola, Jim Goad, Peter Sotos, Michael Moynihan, Sondra London, Jonathan Vankin, Irv Rubin, George Petros, Chris Campion, Robert Sterling, David Woodard, Dan Kelly, Wes Thomas, Crispin Hellion Glover, Boyd Rice, Kadmon, Chad Hensley, James Shelby Downard, Rod Dickinson, Steve Speer, Sarita Vendetta, Ghazi Barakat, Kristan Lawson, Issei Sagawa, Rosemary Malign, Danny Rolling, Larry Wayne Harris, Nicolas Claux, Stu Mead, Trevor Brown, George LaMort, and Beth Love.
“This is a black box of a book, spuming to the brim with the overly articulate paranoias of our age. It is impossible to either put it down or keep yourself from throwing it against the wall. There is no denying its dense psychic substance, though. The dark angels sit crowded on every page.”
— Andrei Codrescu, National Public Radio
“I write books, I read books, and Apocalypse Culture II is the best book I have ever read. Pardon me now if I go out on a limb, but if there is no Pulitzer for this man, this work, I will eat my own Nobel. Adam Parfrey is equal parts H.L. Mencken and P.T. Barnum.”
— Richard Meltzer
“Apocalypse Culture II is an instant classic, blasting through the last frontiers of taboo.”
— Rachel Resnick, author of Go West Young Fucked-Up Chick
“Salacious. Visceral. Great. With Apocalypse Culture II, Adam Parfrey immerses the reader in the deep dark sanguinary sanctums of the subconscious.”
— Robert Williams
“Apocalypse Culture II is the New Testament, redefining and satirically exposing the mutations of consensus hypocrisy. Psychoses duel in the hilarious, absurd, provocative and incestuously urban litanies of deformed martyrs. An unexpectedly sacred alchemical tincture.”
— Genesis P-Orridge
“Adam Parfrey’s astonishing, un-put-downable and absolutely brilliant compilation, Apocalypse Culture II, will blow a hole through your mind the size of JonBenet’s fist. This book should be in hotel rooms.”
— Jerry Stahl, author of Permanent Midnight
“Adam Parfrey shows himself to be unique among investigative journalists: one unafraid to go where barkers fear to tread.”
— Nick Tosches
“Apocalypse Culture II is a chaos bible of delightful forbidden information that falls somewhere between The Cat in the Hat and Mein Kampf. It’s also thick enough to leave a good-sized bruise on someone’s face after you get pissed-off by reading it.”
— Marilyn Manson

Death Scenes
The publication of Death Scenes: A Homicide Detective’s Scrapbook proves there is no such thing as the “good old days.”
Jack Huddleston, a bona fide detective with the Los Angeles police department, collected together a scrapbook of oddities and gruesome moments from his years working for the force. Huddleston’s scrapbook spans Southern California in its noir heyday, circa 1925–1945, the time when the Black Dahlia killer and Winnie Ruth Judd were perpetrating their savage crimes.
Assembled into book form by editor and designer Sean Tejaratchi courtesy of collector and filmmaker Nick Bougas, Death Scenes is divided into several sections: “Odditorium and The Living”; “Accidents and Accidental Deaths”; “Suicides”; “Homicides”; and “The Morgue.” Katherine Dunn, whose book Geek Love (Knopf) earned critical acclaim and bestseller status, provides a cogent introduction, tracing the history of the man behind the scrapbook, meditating on the meaning behind the mayhem and madness.
“If you’ve ever wanted to gaze on crime-scene snaps… then this terrifying, near unbearable compilation is the book for you. Already an underground bestseller, the paradox is that Death Scenes is not so much a reflection of what a violent society it is, as what a safe one. For only in a society like ours, in which death is hidden away, would a book like this be so genuinely shocking.” — GQ Magazine

Disco’s Out… Murder’s In!
Famous for its revolutionary aspects in musical, political, sexual identity and consumerist ideas, punk rock also has its lesser-known gangster ethos as well, explained here by players in the various punk gangs in Los Angeles, Orange County, and South Bay.
Some blue collar kids, responding to the violence and aggression of punk songs, formed punk gangs that got into beatings, drug dealing and murder. No gang was more notorious than La Mirada Punks, or LMP. Says LMP chieftain Frank the Shank after getting arrested by police for murder: “After having my hands in so much bloodshed over the years, I most certainly had it coming. I deserved whatever I got.”
Unexpectedly Frank was bailed out from prison by his father’s friend, a mob gangster. “Too many people died at the hands of punk rock violence,” said Frank. “I got lucky, some didn’t. The gangs ruined punk rock. I still have people telling me today that they quit punk because of LMP. I dig graves at a small cemetery just outside Los Angeles. What else would you expect for Frank the Shank?”
Kudos
“Disco’s Out Murder’s In! is one of my favorite books of all time. I devoured it—An absolute page-turner. It’s an exciting and visceral account of the LA suburbs in the 80’s and an anti-coming of age story. It felt like I was right there. This book is so fucking punk – READ IT!” — Terry Richardson, Photographer/Director
“If you’ve never been in the jungle, a story about a tiger is just a story. Yes, you may shiver… but to you, it’s still just a story, an exciting escape from your every day life. But not to me … It’s real, it’s frightening, and the savagery of that world haunts you forever. I was afraid when I read this book. I caught my fingers tracing over old scars as I turned the pages, and I knew it was real. You can tell yourself that people like this don’t exist, but they do, and they would be pleased to meet you in the dark night of a hardcore boulevard.” — Jack Grisham, Author/Singer TSOL

DYING FOR THE TRUTH:
“Mexico’s go-to Web site on information on the country’s drug war.” — MSNBC
“A gritty, front-row seat to Mexico’s drug war.” — Houston Chronicle
“Some of the horror it displays makes the 2002 film City of God, charting the drug war on the streets of Brazil’s look like a Disney film.” — The Daily Mail
What is the value of telling the truth? For an independent blog reporter in the midst of the Mexican Drug War, it’s as important as her very life, which is threatened on a daily basis. The internationally famous Blog Del Narco is an anonymously typed blog that documents a rare insider’s views of the elusive and highly violent drug war in Mexico.
Hidden by veils of Internet privacy due to death threats, this 30-year-old blogger has become a local hero and is documenting Mexico’s decline. She reveals the horrible savagery of the drug cartels with gruesomely graphic pictures, videos and stories of beheadings, death squads, paramilitary cops in ski masks dragging people off and public humiliation. Blog Del Narco’s highly viewed site (Alexa rated 50 in Mexico, 5,000 in the US, 128,000+ twitter following) has become an international mecca of information into a world that few have gone, and even fewer have lived to tell about.
Original handpicked blog entries are formatted to describe an epic and tragic true story that unfolds the savagery of daily life in Mexico. This book contains both the original Spanish-language posts in addition to their English translations. Truth is risky, and sometimes it’s also harsh. Dying for the Truth addresses narco-censorship, government corruption, and an ever-rising death toll all driven by American demand for the products controlled by the cartels and their government collaborators. Blog Del Narco has fought back, and in turn, created hope in its people and an immense cult following for truth.
The anonymous author is the only person in Mexico daring to write the truth about the violence and corruption of the horrifying drug war in a country that is quickly becoming one of the most dangerous in the world. Her life has been threatened dozens of times, and her informants have often been killed. It’s a certainty she will be horribly murdered. Both the cartels and the government have searched for her. Her crime: reporting the truth.
“What can happen to one can happen to all.”
— Publilius Syrus, 1stcentury B.C.

The End is at Hand
Apocalypse, maybe?
We all want to experience something remarkable in our lifetimes …even if that something results in our own demise.
The End is at Hand is a collection of short essays about how people throughout history believe the world would end. The book explores how it has all ended before, when we mistakenly thought it would end again, and the many ways it could end in the future. Though organized chronologically, beginning with prehistoric extinctions and extending into the distant future when the universe may (or may not) collapse. Nothing lasts forever, including the worlds we inhabit – human society, our planet, or the entire universe.
The End is at Hand entertains as much as it informs, striking a balance of wry humor with scientifically backed research. Author and artist Darrel Perkins complements these cataclysmic tales with finely crafted linocut illustrations that beautifully evoke impending doom.
Author Bio: Darrel Perkins is a printmaker, illustrator, and educator from Providence, Rhode Island, USA. He earned an MFA in illustration from Edinburgh College of Art in Scotland. His work has been exhibited and published throughout the US, Europe, and the Middle East over the past decade. Perkins iscurrently a professor of Visual Communication at American University in Dubai.

When We Are Human
John Zerzan, a respected voice of anarcho-primitivist thought, is back with his call to action to survive and thrive, overcoming our modern crisis. Instead of viewing the decline of modern civilization as something to mourn, he sees the opportunity for us to reclaim our true humanity. In When We Are Human, Zerzan explores biological and social science discoveries, then invests the abstract findings with history and literature to create a syncretic understanding of how we ended up in a civilization-ending state. More than his previous works, Zerzan, as an elder in his community, shows us our past errors to ensure a more meaningful future for our next iteration of humanity.
